The State Bar of California, the largest and most complex state bar in the United States, is seeking a dynamic, energetic and highly accomplished leader to become its next CEO/Executive Director.

The State Bar serves as both the state regulatory agency for lawyers (public protection) and the statewide professional association for its members. All practicing lawyers in California must be active members. The bar is headquartered in San Francisco with a satellite office in Los Angeles.

Duties

The CEO/Executive Director is hired on contract by and is directly accountable to the Board of Trustees. The CEO/Executive Director manages the State Bar in accordance with statutory requirements, Board policy and direction, and generally accepted business and professional practices.

This position is based in San Francisco and spends considerable time in the Los Angeles office.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

·        Comparable executive management and leadership experience with a public corporation, large government regulatory agency or department, judicial enterprise, local government, or complex professional association

·        10 years of senior-level management responsibility, including experience leading change initiatives and building “best in class” organizations

·        Experience integrating business and technology best practices to ensure innovation and operational excellence

Skills & Abilities

·        Outstanding management and leadership skills

·        Outstanding interpersonal and team building skills

Nassau County Bar seeks LAP Director  

The Nassau County Bar Association seeks a director of its Lawyer Assistance Program. This is a part-time position.

Duties

Key responsibilities include:

·        Responding to inquiries regarding impaired attorneys;

·        Conducting clinical assessments and interventions as required;

·        Working with treatment providers to obtain treatment at reduced or no cost for indigent attorneys;

·        Maintaining and monitoring a 24-7 crisis hotline, and;

·        Developing, expanding and maintaining relationships with the legal community, state, local and specialty bar associations, and treatment facilities and providers.

The position requires considerable travel, mostly by car, with occasional meetings elsewhere in the state or other states. Reports to the NCBA Lawyer Assistance Committee and the NCBA Executive Director.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

·        Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Master of Social Work

·        Background in chemical dependency/mental health issues including CASAC credential, or higher, preferred

·        Certification and 10 years' experience in the treatment of alcoholism, substance abuse, stress and depression

·        Law degree not required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

·        Knowledge of professional assistance programs and case management of professionals is desirable

·        High degree of moral character, professionalism and integrity

·        Working knowledge of computer software, including word processing, database management, PowerPoint, e-mail and the Internet
